Yes must have been amazing in those years and what players we had, not to mention the manager.
I once saw a photo of Ron traveling back from wembly with the FA cup on the underground! Amazing times, how things have changed.

Re: First away game
Yes Mex I've seen that photo also players would travel on buses...
Quite often after an away game you would get players including Bobby Moore get in the Burford near Stratford market or the Black Lion.
I went to School in Ilford 1961/65 and it was full of spud supporters so 1964/65 was heaven for me :-)

Oxford Utd league cup match on a cold wet Wednesday night in October 1990. Coach got us there late, missed our early goal but saw there 2 goals as we lost 2-1

15th March 1986 v Arsenal at the Library, we lost 1-0. the cunts couldn't have packed any more of us in to our bit of the clock end, like sardines. was a great atmosphere and we may have got something out of the game if Alvin hadn't got sent for fighting with that horrible cunt O'Leary

Vs Brighton, Goldstone Ground - September '89.

3-0 down in 15 minutes I think, pouring with rain too on an open terrace, and Brady missed a penalty

Awful game

1976 at Highbury

Never forget being in the North Bank, Old Bill whacking everyone with Truncheons.

Alan Taylor ran the length of the pitch to put us 1-0 up, Arsenal scored 6

Re: First away game
West Ham used to come down to Bournemouth pre_season regularly in the late 60's early 70's. I remember seeing Bobby Moore warming up.
I also remember seeing them at Fratton Park pre_season around 1968-69 which I think they won 0-2..?
After that it was probably the game at Forest when Metgod hit 'that' free-kick which I swear was still rising when it flashed past Parkes. Cottee scored a really impressive equaliser only for us to lose it in injury time...

Re: First away game
Mike, always say that was the game along with losing few days later at Villa which cost us the league as we should have won both easily.
First away was at Coventry in the league cup in 1968, got beat I think which was rare up there.

Dave, I'll never forgive the pixie nosed cunt for that. he caused the row and Alvin got the blame

Re: First away game
DaveT - no doubt in my mind that we were cheated out of the three points at Anfield which would have won us it.

Paul Walsh dive in the penalty box and Ray Stewart getting sent off for saying a dive was a dive completely turned that match around

Mike, glad you remember that as I'm the same, mates can't understand why I dislike him even today. Bloody hell, I'm getting depressed now thinking about that season. Even then we had shit decisions costing us.

Norwich 1975 or 76. Not sure which. Though as we were living in Norwich at the time, not exactly a trek.
